I have used many cheap trowels/shovels in the past. They always fail in one of two paces. The first is the shaft will bend with even moderate force when try to lever out rocks. The second is the handle will break off the shaft. This trowel caught my eye because the shaft is much thicker stainless steel than most I have used in the past. It will take a lot to bend this shaft. Second, the handle is much thicker wood than others that have broken on me. I am hoping the shaft extends into the handle most of the way which would add significant strength. I didn't want to take it apart to see because I was afraid I'd never get it back together again.Pros:Solid, thick stainless steel that will resist rust and bendingThick wooden handle that provides a good grip and good leverageSharp point that can be used to pierce landscape fabric cleanlyNarrow blade is perfect for digging out proper sized holes for seedlingsMeasurement markings on the blade remove guesswork about how far down you areCons:Don't know how far into the handle the shaft goesOverall, there is nothing really to complain about with this trowel. It's a great value for the money and I wish I would have gotten a nice one like this a long time ago.
I used this trowel for digging up weeds/grass in my garden. The narrow trowel with pointed end made it easy to transplant seedlings in the vegetable patch. It is just the right size and fit for my hand. I like that it is solid and heavy, looks like it will survive repeated and frequent use, even in hard packed soil.
So two things that are really good about this shovel that is that the base of the handle is fairly wide, which is quite handy when pushing it down into the soil. Next up the blade is pretty pointy which again, is really handy for pushing down into the soil. The shape does mean you lose some surface area, but it's a tradeoff. If it's a big issue then I guess you can keep a second wider shovel handy, but honestly just getting the thing down into the soil and navigating around rocks has been my most prominent peeve in digging holes so something that goes into the ground easier than other small hand shovels is quite welcome.

The "Garden Guru Eco Transplanter Trowel Shovel- 100% Recycled Stainless Steel - Rust Resistant" arrived promptly and was just as described online. The transplanter has several nice features.PROS: * This eco-friendly multipurpose trowel is well-designed for digging, loosening packed soil, weeding, transplanting, cutting through tough roots, mixing in compost or fertilizer, planting seeds and aerating soil.* The well-made trowel measures 13” in length; handle only is 5.5” and the triangular blade is 6” x 3”.* The large, concave, high-capacity shovel makes scooping soil from one place to another an easy task.* The handle has a smoothly-drilled hole with a leather loop for hanging and safe storage. Many of my former trowels without a hang loop mysteriously disappeared and ended up buried under leaves and pine straw, rediscovered years later.* The rust-resistant trowel is easy to clean with a hose. I like to air dry my garden tools in the sun before storing them on a pegboard for hanging. * This handsome trowel is an excellent buy for $7. It makes a wonderful gift for your favorite gardener, who just might be you. The gift of a multipurpose trowel might also introduce the recipient to the peaceful and rewarding world of gardening and growing one’s own vegetables and fruits.* The high-quality trowel is constructed of polished, rust resistant, 100% recycled Stainless Steel with a blade designed for durability and strength.* The wide blade features 1" to 4" scaled markings (2 to 10 cm), essential when planting bulbs at the proper depth for Spring blooms and in the successful transplanting of small, immature plants. * The wide blade with pointed tip easily penetrates compacted soil and lifts the entire root system out of the ground, important for both transplanting and removing weeds with all roots so that it won't grow back. * The FSC certified ergonomic wood handle provides full control when removing imbedded weeds and reduces hand fatigue during long planting sessions.* The sturdily welded handle and blade provides strength and durability.* This eco-friendly tool is made with 100% recycled stainless steel and FSC certified wood for sustainability. Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) wood comes from forests that are responsibly managed for environmental, social and economic benefits. They prevent deforestation, protect biodiversity, respect community rights and ensure fair worker treatment. There is a certified "chain of custody" to ensure that the wood is traced from sustainable forest to final product.Enjoy your well-made, eco-friendly trowel!Highly Recommended.
I like the wooden handle on this trowel. It's comfortable and I appreciate it's made of wood. I've had other trowels with plastic rubber handles that melt or disintegrate. The wood handle will last a long time. There's not a lot of width to this trowel so it's difficult to scoop out large quantities of dirt. It is however good for carving out spots of dirt for transplanting an item or carving out space for a new item. The edges are sharp and the material is durable.
