Overall this is a good little garden trowel. The handle is comfortable to grip and the blade seems thick and of good quality. It is fairly noticeable that the blade is welded onto the piece that connects to the wood - it's not just one cast of metal. The wood is smooth and not just raw-wood. However, whatever finish was used on it is light and the wood may need a more durable coating eventually. The blade itself is very smooth - almost mirror like. I'm sure it will get scratched through use, but for now dirt slides off.I dislike the barcode sticker on the back. It's really well stuck on and I had difficulty removing it. I will probably need to soak and scrub, then use adhesive remover.
I was surprised by the quality of this garden spade when it showed up. The metal is nice and slick so mud doesn't cling to it easily. The handle is about the perfect size for my gloved hand and feels very comfortable to use. So far it's held up well and it's nice to have nice equipment like this around.
This is currently about $10 which is a crazy good value imo. There is no plastic which is important to me, not just for environmental concerns but for the feel and aesthetic reasons too. The ground is frozen solid right now so I can only judge by looks until Spring - I have small female hands and the handle is comfortable, the stainless steel looks strong and is a good weight for getting into it. I do not know how far up into the wood handle the metal goes, so I'm hoping this doesn't loosen too much with regular use. I prefer a deeper V-shape on a hand trowel but not a deal breaker. Size will work for planting seedlings.I take time to write honest reviews that I would find helpful. If it falls apart unreasonably soon with normal use, I will update review. This claims to have a lifetime warranty though. For maybe a couple bucks more than a plastic trowel it seems worth a try at least.
I'd give this trowel 6 stars if I could. There’s something very satisfying about using a well-made, heavy garden tool, and this is one of them. The trowel feels extremely sturdy and durable. The wooden handle is smooth with no rough spots or edges, and the blade is welded securely to the handle. The head is wide and fairly flat with sharp-ish edges, making it great for cutting into compacted soil or weed clusters. It's made of stainless steel which is nice, meaning it will last a long time. I'm hard on my garden tools, so absolutely a bonus. I love that it's made of recycled materials, and I do not detect any weakness or instability because of that fact. This is a quality garden tool that I would absolutely recommend.
I have been very pleased with this trowel. Its rigid construction and heft made it immediately stand out from my pervious tools. I have broken several poorly made trowels in the past two years of home gardening, and I am pleased to report that I have no fears regarding the longevity of this trowel.Of note, the thickness of the steel used to form the actual blade of the tool. This appears to be two or three times thicker than the locally available big-box trowels.Next, the material. This is perhaps the most important distinction - stainless steel immediately has an advantage over the local tools, as they are available in either plastic or mild steel. That's it. Plastic becomes brittle and shatters, and the mild steel tools rust out so quickly that I would need to replace them every 6 months or so. I have contented myself with using a split piece of 2" pvc, shaped and sharpened... But after THAT broke, I decided to look for a better solution.I have to say, this is an excellent, well-made trowel. As someone who -might- be a little hard on their tools, this is surviving my gauntlet, showing no signs of fatigue or distortion. I have absolutely no complaints. 10/10, highly recommend.**Of note, I garden in the thick clay-rich soil of the US southern coast. It's HARD on tools.
