Smaller than I expected.
I usually use a very sturdy long handled trimmer with a similar blade. These are great for small jobs, I have only used them on small shrubs and branches, but so far so good.
First of all, this is strictly my own opinion, but I've been around and using tools for a looong time and I can remember these things being made of metal. I'm not a big fan of this plastic tool craze, soooo....When I get talking about the metal parts, I'm talking the cutter and anvil mainly, on this item these are very good, nice and sharp and seem to be very durable. I took this up against a fairly difficult target, a hardwood branch nearly 1/2" in diameter, and it bit right in. It took a few times working at it to get through it, but that was expected, so I checked the metal after, and didn't see very much distortion, chipping or burring at all.Now the plastic, the handle and frame, I've never been a big fan of plastic as a part of a high-tension tool, this is always just plain a recipe for disaster. Leaving it exposed to the elements for long periods of time deteriorate them rapidly. That said, the plastics on this felt pretty solid, not a lot of give when needing to put a fair amount of force to it, they didn't feel like they were bending or twisting or even stressing that badly. All in all, this turned out to be better than I thought, I felt that it was hefty enough to do the job well if taken care of, my roommate thought it felt "chintzy" but she liked the way that it worked.Would I buy it again? Do you know where to find a metal one? No? Then yes, I would buy it again. Would I recommend it to others? Yes.
These are good cutters for pruning small limbs. They work really well for small twig size limbs. The largest size limbs that I was able to use them for without them feeling like they were going to break was about as thick as a miniature carrot. I feel like any thicker than that size, risk possibly breaking these. There is a very fine, sharp edge on the blade of these which makes for smooth cutting but cutting something too big with a fine edge like these have could result in damaging the blade.I like the feel of these in my hand, I like the uniquely designed return spring that returns after a cut, and I like the green color which makes them easy to see and find. The only thing I didn't like was these safety lock. The reason I didn't like the safety lock is because after about every 15 or 20 cuts, the safety lock would fall down into place and lock the pliers during a cut. It would take about 1 to 2 seconds for me to flip the lock back up so it's a pretty minor inconvenience. Other than that, these are great cutters.
Got these for my wife who is planning her spring garden. They are not only not sharp but they really don’t have much cutting power at all. Quite dull. They’ll only work for very small branches that aren’t that sturdy. Would not get again.
